- Abstract
- The electronic fuel injection system has severe problems with heavy hydrocarbon (HC) emission generated by non-uniform spray droplets and insufficient air-fuel mixture. Therefore, various atomization techniques are being developed in order to reduce HC emission. One of these techniques is the air-shrouded injector, which has better atomization ability and demands less power loss than other atomizers. Thus, the development of this air-shrouded injector may be a major topic to cope with international emission regulations. Nevertheless, there are few studies that deal with the characteristics of air-shrouded injectors. In this study, the spray characteristics and atomization mechanism of an air-shrouded injector that was designed and manufactured are analysed using a PDPA system. Also the characteristics of the spray atomization breakup modes and distribution function of the SMD for the air-shrouded injector are discussed.
