Abstract
This study aims to examine Feng shui feature and graft onto Taoist thought of the Muheuljeongsa Cottage(武屹精舍)`s location. The location and space composition of the cottage reflects Hangang(寒 岡)`s cognition and availability on Feng shui and his Taoist thought. In the middle of the Joseon Dynasty, Feng Shui had widely spread around bureaucrats and intellectuals. And it was combined, changed, and embraced by Confucian ideology within the framework of Confucian world-view. Han-gang who had a great interest in Feng shui chose and built the Muheuljeongsa Cottage based on his close relationship with Feng Shui. The cottage that was built to keep the distance from the world was famous for its scenic beauty because of its location close to the Man-woldam Pond(滿月潭) that belonged to the Muheulgugog Valley(武屹九曲) on the 7th rank. Taoist thought that was deeply in the head of the Confucian scholars in the Joseon Dynasty had made the training progress for self-discipline an important indicator of life, by escaping from the world and staying in a secluded place. They built a small house in search of the ideal place where the mountains and the water harmoniously meet and sought to explore the right attitude of life through Neo-Confucianism. The classical scholars paid particular attention to choose where they would stay, to which they tried to give meaning by recollecting the ancient and modern sages who had lived in the place before.
