- Abstract
- Recently, many wireless network technologies have received impressive attention from public safety networks (PSNs) and public safety communications. Wireless network consists of battery-operated nodes; the power consumption of the network is one of the key issues to carefully address. Several clustering approaches have been adopted in wireless networks to tackle the power consumption issue and they have shown electrifying results. Alongside different clustering approaches, appropriate cluster-head (CH) selection plays a crucial role in making wireless networks more power-efficient. However, in existing studies, clustering was not implemented in PSNs. In this paper, we propose a clustering-based Cluster-HEad Selection Scheme with Power Control (CHESS-PC) for PSN. The proposed scheme utilizes Fuzzy C-Means as a clustering tool. The results show that the proposed scheme significantly reduces the power consumption of the network. The proposed scheme achieved an efficiency improvement of 30.24% and 20.46% compared with the non-clustering based and FCM clustering-based conventional schemes, respectively.
