Abstract
This study aimed to investigate Taekwondo instructors' awareness of the roles and functions of Taekwondo gyms for the prevention of school violence. To achieve this research purpose, in-depth interviews were used as a method. Upon purposeful sampling, which is one of nonprobability sampling methods, Five research participants were finally recruited. Subject analysis were conducted step by step on the data collected from the in-depth interviews. Then, the contents of the responses were analyzed in detail. The roles and functions of Taekwondo gyms for school violence prevention were derived on the basis of basic meanings according to the domain analysis, and the results are summarized as follows. First, Taekwondo gyms encourage the self-esteem of the trainees (victims) and second, they raise the ethical awareness of the trainees (assaulters). Third, they help relieve the psychological stress of the victim trainees. Fourth, they help release excessive energy of the trainees and prevents insecure attitudes. Fifth, they complement school education. Sixth, school teachers and Taekwondo instructors can cooperate with each other for student education, and seventh, they help resolve potential future conflicts in local communities. Eighth, they contribute to promoting understanding and cooperation between generations. Ninth, they improve team spirit and harmony among friends.
