Abstract
There is a growing demand for convergence in society. Convergence competency can be developed through learning experiences that involve utilizing higher-order thinking skills, collaborating with others from diverse areas, and solving complex and authentic tasks. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of interdisciplinary team project-based learning as an instructional strategy of convergence education. From the literature review, it was expected that working on authentic interdisciplinary projects allows students to improve convergence competency as well as career identity. Data were collected both from 246 college students including 98 students who participated in an interdisciplinary team project activity and 148 non-participating students. As a result, the convergence competency and the career identity of the participating group significantly improved after completing the interdisciplinary team project-based learning, and their scores of convergence competency and career identity were higher than those of the non-participating group. Also, the students who participated in the activity showed high levels of satisfaction with their learning experience. From the findings, implications for organizing and managing interdisciplinary team projects were discussed.
