- Abstract
- This is a preliminary study exploring students’learning outcome, preferences about teaching methods, and factors influencing their learning, in the context of a large general education course at a Korean university that applied the flipped classroom. In this study, the flipped classroom was implemented in a large general education psychology course for the purpose of exploring students’learning preferences and learning outcome. We adopted flipped classroom in a class with 155 students and provided questionnaires on learning preferences. Results of the learning outcome comparison showed that students performed significantly better when they learned using flipped classroom than the traditional teaching method. It was also found that students preferred the traditional teaching method compared to flipped classroom; however, they expressed their perceptions about the effectiveness of learning activities introduced through flipped classroom. Based on the results, there is potential for using a learner-centered teaching method in a large general education class with continuous instructional efforts to help students become more interested in and intellectually motivated with such methods.
