- Abstract
- The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze social networking in Taekwondo trainees. To conduct this study, purposive sampling was used in a Taekwondo Gym around the capital area of South Korea and 119 trainees in this Gym participated in a complete enumeration survey. The questionnaire of this study was designed to examine sociodemographic characteristics (gender, grades, training periods of Taekwondo, perceived exertion, the number of participation in Taekwondo per week), social networking and characteristic factors (In-degree, Out-Degree, the number of links, average, standard deviation, density, isolate, clustering, pendant, inclusiveness), and training intention to continue Taekwondo and interviews were conducted for early elementary school aged trainees when it was necessary.
The results of this study were as follow: First, friendship networks were revealed to satisfy power law distribution. Second, the friendship network structure showed that there were individual differences in Out-Degree and the clustering coefficients were low. Third, the number of exercise per week and gender had a significant effect on In-degree and Out-degree. Lastly, 8 subgroups and 1 isolated group were found in the coherent structure. In addition, the 1 isolated group's training intention to continue Taekwondo was lower in comparison with group 2 and group 3.
