- Abstract
- The present study explores how 4- to 6-year-oldKorean children comprehend four types of relative clauses which arevaried by the semantic prominence of the head noun and the type ofrelative clause (i.e., subject relative clause vs. object relative clause).
Results from a picture-selection task confirm the effects of semanticprominence and relative clause types on comprehension of relativeclauses. They also demonstrate age-related variations that youngerchildren are more dependent on the semantic prominence of the headnoun while older children are more affected by the type of relativeclause.
