Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of physical activity on cardiopulmonary fitness (CRF) by analyzing the correlation between physical activity level, physical activity and CRF of male and female college students using 3-axis accelerometer (wearable device). CRF was evaluated in 30 males (22.9±1.5 years) and 30 females (22.4±1.6 years) at K University by maximal graded exercise test using the modified bruce protocol. The physical activity was measured using the accelerometer for 7 days, excluding sleep and bath, and the activity time and the number of steps. As a result of correlation analysis between V ̇ O2max and physical characteristics, there was a significant correlation in body weight (r=.432) and body fat mass (r= -.482) (p<.05). As a result of correlation analysis between V ̇ O2max and physical activity, the number of walks (r=.381), low intensity ratio ( r=.280), medium intensity time (r= -.302), and medium intensity ratio(r= -.308) was significant (p<.05). The conclusion is that the assessment of physical activity levels using wearable devices can provide a wealth of information about CRF. In everyday life, college students can increase their motivation for the importance of physical activity to change their active behavior. In order to improve the lifestyles of male and female college students, the daily energy demand should be increased.
