- Abstract
- The purpose of this research is to analyze the energy performance of the organic Rankine cycle (ORC) applied to a centralized liquid desiccant and evaporative cooling-assisted ventilation system in an apartment building. As a small combined heat and power application in apartment buildings, the ORC produces heat and power consumed by the proposed system and building. A conventional decentralized energy recovery ventilator (ERV) served by the existing power grid was chosen as a reference system. The ORC integrated with liquid desiccant and evaporative cooling-assisted ventilation system can offer energy savings by recovering heat from the ORC condenser compared to conventional ERVs. As a result, the proposed system could provide supply air with better condition and reduce the parallel system energy consumption. Consequently, the proposed system saved 27% annual primary energy with better system COP compared that of the ERV when the power produced from the ORC was applied for the common electricity of the building.
