- Abstract
- Diesel engines are highly efficient and highly durable. It is an attractive power source for most vehicle applications. A hybrid drive train with a diesel engine has the potential of achieving an improved fuel consumption and reduced exhaust gas. In this paper, a diesel engine model for developing an energy control unit for hybrid vehicles is presented. Most engine models for hybrid vehicles are quasi-stationary; therefore, they could not represent the effects of the indicated efficiency by air-to-fuel ratio and exhaust gas recirculation(EGR). In order to consider those effects on fuel efficiency and NOx emission, the mean-value diesel engine model, including air-path characteristics, is developed and validated with the experiment data. This model has inlet and exhaust manifolds, the pumping action of the engine, the turbocharger, the intercooler, and the EGR circuit.
