- Abstract
- The 1990s was the period during which important trends in the Korean game industry were formed. Although the PC game industry did not receive spotlight due to its small size, it was the only game sector with respectable technological competitiveness in Korea, until the rise of the online game sector. As such, the PC game sector served as a reservoir of manpower and technology that fed the early phase of the online game sector. The many problems of the PC game sector, such as illegal copying, are well known. This paper aims to examine the rise and fall of the PC game industry by focusing on its developers. A detailed examination of the professional lives of PC game developers will allow a broader understanding of the historical evolution of the Korean game industry. Toward this goal, this paper will pay special attention to the life and technology of the developers as they responded to various external stimuli.
