Abstract
The purpose of this study is to experimentally demonstrate the fan control strategy of computer room air handler (CRAH) in amodular data center with containment architecture. In containment architecture, variable speed drive fan is widely accepted in orderto reduce fan energy. However, the selection of inappropriate control variable for fan speed yields improper operation of fan; fanairflow does not change when the IT equipment is in part-load operation. In this study, fan control strategy that modulates fanspeed according to the differential pressure between cold- and hot-aisle through containment is experimented. As a result, thisstrategy reduces the discrepancy between rack and CRAH fan airflow though small recirculation is occurred due to gap betweenfloor and racks.
