- Abstract
- This study aims to assess the influence on personal health conditions of the physical attributes in 5 metropolitan cities in Korea. The physical attributes of the city are divided into two characteristics, personal and physical. In this study, the personal characteristics consist of a total of 8 variables based on the 4th Korean National Health-nutrition Examination Survey, and the physical characteristics include a total of 11 factors of 45 target areas in the 5 metropolitan cities where the survey was conducted. The personal and physical characteristics have different hierarchical data structure. In this regard, Hierarchical Linear Model (HLM) was employed for this study. As a result of this study, the personal characteristics such as sex, age, income, smoking, and occupation (white collar) affect the personal health conditions, and among the physical characteristics, the percentage of detached housing and the number of bus stops have the most important effects on the personal health conditions. This study is meaningful in terms of identifying the physical attributes affecting personal health conditions in 5 metropolitan cities, and its findings could also be used as preliminary information for further health-related studies in the urban studies field.
