- Abstract
- This study was intended to analyze how the disabled bodies were related to the colonial system during the Japanese rule based on the understanding that human bodies had such strong force to create a new colonial system. The subjects of the study include such short stories in the late 1930's when the Japanese militarism was reinforced as had disabled characters. The physical dispositions and spatial characteristics were analyzed in A Portrait of a Shaman by Kim Dong-ri, The Underground Village by Gang Gyeong-ae, Losing the Vision by Eom Heung-seop, and The Hunchback Foreman by Kim Sa-ryang. The disabled during the Japanese rule were characterized by isolation, worsening sense of inferiority, innocence, and expressions of criticism and resistance. Those chosen works contain their criticism and resistance internally, revealing the post-colonialist characteristics
