Abstract
: Many motors are used in automobiles today due to its electrification and electric system of vehicles. When designing a vehicle electric system, accurate loss calculation should be conducted for motors to predict efficiency or temperature. In this paper, the iron loss in rotor of the fractional slot permanent magnet synchronous motor is analyzed. Since iron loss is expressed as function of magnetic flux density and frequency, the harmonic components of magnetic flux density and their frequencies are important. In the case of a fractional slot motor, an error can occur in harmonic analysis of rotor magnetic flux density when the electrical frequency(frequency of armature magnetic flux density) is used as the fundamental wave frequency. It is necessary to determine the relationship between the harmonic order of the rotor magnetic flux density and the stator magnetic flux density, since the rotor iron loss also includes a large error in this case. Therefore, for the fractional slot motor, a mathematical analysis of the harmonic order of magnetic flux density in rotor and a proper method of calculating the rotor iron loss are proposed. In addition, for a total of three different fractional pole/slot combinations, the difference is confirmed by comparing the iron losses by frequency of the rotor's magnetic flux density
