르 코르뷔지에의 자연석쌓기벽과 드 망드로 주택에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 1929년 드 망드로 주택을 정점으로 두드러지는 자연석쌓기벽이 르 코르뷔지에의 건축에서 전개되는 과정을 하나의 맥락으로 이해하여 분석한다. 유년기 시절에 직접 경험한 산악지역 쉼터, 청년기의 동방 여행 속 토착 주거에서 자연석쌓기벽의 전조적인 모습이 발견되고, 하부토대-담벽-중벽-파사드-내부로 등장하여 점차 외부에서 내부로 진입하여 사람의 거주공간을 구성하는 건축요소 확장된다. 특히 드 망드로 주택을 기점으로 전면 파사드를 뒤덮으며 그가 추구하던 토착성이 과감히 드러난다. 이는 기계주의 시대에 사라져가는 감수성을 되찾기 위해 수천 년 동안 입증된 토착성이 발현된것이다. 그의 자연석쌓기벽 설계안들은 브루탈리즘 초기 담론에서 논의된 자울주택, 유니테 다비타시옹의 앞선 원형적 사례로서 의미 있게 논의 될 수 있다.

This study examines the Rustic Masonry wall in Le Corbusier’s architecture, particularly before and after Purism (1905-1934). The RusticMasonry wall isn't merely a passing trend or experiment but consistently appears and evolves in his architecture. Rustic Masonry wall can befound in the extreme mountain shelters of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, where he grew up, and in the traditional dwellings heencountered on his trip to the East in 1916. Also the wall can be found in fences or partial walls in the 1920s, when Purism becameprominent. Specifically, its significance grew notably in Villa De Mandrot (1929-1931). Starting with the house, the Rustic Masonry wallcovers the entire façade and closely intervenes in the living space. In other words, the house is at the point where the Rustic Masonry wallis extended as an architectural element. Le Corbusier aimed for a connection between man and nature, emphasizing the vernacular, which isevident in his use of the Rustic Masonry wall. This study explores how the Rustic Masonry Wall is portrayed in his architecture and theimplications of its vernacular nature.
