Abstract
This paper proposes a method for reducing the vibration of a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) used in rotary compressor system. The focus is on reducing the vibration occurring in the inverter carrier frequency band, which are inevitably generated by inverter switching and can cause hearing loss. Initially, the main causes of vibration in the inverter carrier frequency band were investigated, using finite element analysis (FEA) and an experiment. The time-harmonic components of the radial electromagnetic force density, mode shapes, and natural frequencies that affect the vibration of the motor are verified. Subsequently, electromagnetic and structural design variables related to vibration and noise are selected for optimization. Design variables that are considered to affect the amplitude of the radial electromagnetic force and structural deflection of the motor system are selected. Finally, after the optimization, the vibration reduction of the optimized motor is verified via FEA and experiments.
