대중음악 활동 예술인의 예술활동지속의미에대한질적연구 - 밴드 기반 대중음악인을 중심으로 -

Abstract

본 연구는 어려움 속에서도 예술활동을 지속하는 예술인 중 대중 음악 활동 예술인의 예술 지속 현상을 살펴보고자 실행되었다. 이를 위해 대중음악 분야에서 밴드 음악을 기반으로 활동하며 예술활동증명 등록이 완료된 예술인 4명을 대상으로 이들이 예술활동을 지속하는 의미를 살펴보기 위해 인터뷰를 실시하였고, 이를 주제분석 방법을 통해 분석하였다. 분석 결과 4개의 범주와 이에 따른 9개의 하위범주가 도출되었다. 구체적으로 [(1)예술활동의 우연한 시작]의 범주에서 [(1-1) 예술을 시작한 건 우연이었다]의 1개 하위 범주, [(2)현실적 어려움]의 범주에서 [(2-1)심리적 어려움은 크지 않다, (2-2)경제적 어려움은 존재한다, (2-3)어려운 건 사람이더라]의 3개 하위 범주, [(3)나다워지는 공간]의 범주에서 [(3-1)음악이 아니라, 무대에 서고 싶었다, (3-2)‘나’라 는 존재를 풀어내는 공간]의 2개 하위 범주가 도출되었고, [(4)삶과 음악 사이]의 범주에서 [(4-1)음악이 아니면 할 게 없다, (4-2)그만둘 이유가 없다, (4-3)음악으로 인정받고 싶다]의 하 위 범주가 도출되었다. 본 연구를 통해 밴드 기반 대중음악 활동 예술인에게 예술활동의 지속은 단순한 직업 선택이나 생계 유지를 넘어 우연한 시작-현실적 어려움-무대에서의 자아 확인-삶과 음악의 통합으로 이어지는 자아정체성의 형성 과정임을 보여주었다. 이 결과는 밴드 기반 대중음 악인의 지속 경험을 설명하는 질적 근거를 제공하며, 경제적 지원 사업의 실질적 효과와 한계, 대인관계적 어려움에 대한 구체적 개입 프로그램의 필요성과 더불어 향후 연구 확장을 위한 제언 을 논의하였다.

This study explores the phenomenon of artistic persistence among popular musicians. Interviews with four certified band-based artists were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results yielded 4 categories and 9 subcategories: [(1) The Accidental Start of Artistic Activity] (1-1: Starting art was an accident); [(2) Realistic Difficulties] (2-1: Psychological difficulties are insignificant, 2-2: Economic difficulties exist, 2-3: Interpersonal relationships are the real challenge); [(3) A Space to Become Oneself] (3-1: I wanted to be on stage, not just make music, 3-2: A space to express the entity called "me"); and [(4) Between Life and Music] (4-1: Nothing else to do but music, 4-2: No reason to quit, 4-3: Wanting recognition through music). The findings demonstrate that for these artists, persistence is a process of identity formation—transitioning from an accidental start through realistic difficulties to self-confirmation on stage and integrating life and music—going beyond a simple career choice. This study provides qualitative evidence of this persistence, discussing the limitations of economic support, the need for interpersonal interventions, and future research directions.
