- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to investigate macroscopic spray characteristics according to blending of diesel and gasoline fuels. The macroscopic spray characteristics were analyzed through the comparison of the injection quantity, the spray tip penetration and the spray cone angle due to the variation of the injection pressure and the fuel properties. Test fuels used in this work were diesel-gasoline fuels with 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% of gasoline fuel by volumetric fraction. Fuel density, kinematic viscosity, surface tension and flash point of blended fuels were measured and analyzed. Spray behavior characteristics were analyzed through spray images, which were obtained from the spray visualization system. It was revealed that the properties of test fuels, such as density, kinematic viscosity, and surface tension were decreased with the increase of gasoline quantity. At the short energizing duration conditions, the injection quantity of test fuels showed almost similar level. However, the injection quantity for gasoline blended fuels showed decreasing trend at a long energizing duration. In diesel-gasoline blended fuels showed decreasing trend at a long energizing duration. In diesel-gasoline blended fuels, the spray tip penetration characteristics were showed similar values with pure diesel fuel. Spray cone angle was slightly increased with the increased with the increase of gasoline blending ratio.
