Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of the energizing duration and the ambient gas pressure on the gasoline direct injection (GDI) spray behavior characteristics in a constant volume-high pressure chamber. In order to visualize the GDI spray, the spray visualization system, which consists of the high-speed camera, the meta-halide lamps, and the synchronizing systems, is utilized. In addition, the n-heptane fuel that has a similar physical properties with gasoline fuel is used for the safety.<BR> It was revealed through the spray image analysis that the effect of energizing duration for spray tip penetration is insignificant. Also, the spray tip penetration is decreased according to the increasing ambient pressure due to the increase of the drag force and friction of ambient gas. The rotating vortex was located closely the injector nozzle tip as increase of ambient pressure.
