Abstract
With improved social status, increased and diversified outdoor activities, and heightened economic level of women, the change of space presentation to which periodical femininity is applied is required, together with improved functions of space. Thus, this study herein aims to provide fundamental resources on spatial characteristics of women-exclusive toilets by seeking the characteristics of today's women and improvement points of space favored by them. To achieve this, it identified women's intrinsic characteristics (stability, consensual, and relation orientation). In detail, a psychological factor, stability was classified into structural, pathological, and privacy aspects, and a factor stimulating sensible psychology, consensual was analyzed based on sensory, aesthetic, and nature-friendly aspects. Furthermore, an interactive factor, relation orientation includes intimacy, multi-purpose space, and marketing characteristic. According to the results derived from analysis on women-exclusive toilets used by many different women around Samseong Station crowded by office and commercial spaces, the toilets are created so that the characteristics of stability and relation orientation presented in femininity can be functionally convenient, whereas atmosphere of the women-exclusive toilets and consensual, a decorative feature, are not sufficient. Through this study, although women-exclusive toilets are still focused on functionality, they will be newly suggested with psychological healing or cultural space of relaxation if periodical femininity is more understood.
