Abstract
Purpose:The purpose of this study is to create and conduct a class activity using fairy tales related to disability for lower grade students in order to see how much it affects the students‘ disability awareness and acceptance attitude of disability. Methods:The development of disability awareness program is based on the Understanding Structure proposed by Irwin and Baker. The disability awareness program was conducted for grade 2 students without disability for a total of five weeks. To examine the effects of the program, 23 students without disability participated in the experimental group and the control group respectively. Statistical analysis was performed by pre-post t-test and inter-group homogeneity test. Results:As a result of the experimental group, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the pre and post disability awareness and attitude of acceptancy. Conclusion:Such result shows that literature classes using fairy tales can surely improve the inaccurate stereotyping of the disabled and acceptance attitude of people with disability can also be actively improved throughout one’s personal and social life.
