Abstract
Purpose: The unpredictable demand change leading to the disequilibrium between supply and demand in a supply chain is not only the biggest threat to keep a stable producing, but also an uncontrollable factor. We, in this research, formulated a mathematical model for optimal production lot-sizing considering the disequilibrium risk, and also identified the effectiveness by numerical examples. Research design, data, and methodology: For the determination of optimal production lot-sizing, we used the GA(genetic algorithm), one of the good methods for solving optimization problems which is based on biological evolution, with two cases based on numerical examples: (1)a case of equilibrium between supply and demand, and (2)a case of disequilibrium between supply and demand. Results: From the view point of maximizing profit, we found that the optimal production lot-sizing by each product from two cases. Conclusions: In a supply chain, the major risks mostly come from a mismatch of supply and demand. We discussed, in this research, the risks resulting from the mismatch focused on optimal production lot-sizing which can be helpful to stable producing and inventory management for firms.
