- Abstract
- While the meaning of ‘datchi-’ and ‘dakchi-’ is common, there are many differences in actual use. “Close” is not used well in synchronic and “shut” is mainly used in command form. To understand these characteristics, consideration should be given to the diachronic changes in ‘datchi-’ and ‘dakchi-’.
‘Datchi-’ shows an example of being marked as ‘dachi-’. This means that ‘datchi-’ and ‘dathi-’ are placed in the same homonym relationship. In this context, ‘datchi-’ is confused with ‘dathi-’. ‘Dathi-’ appears in the position of ‘datchi-’. It can be assumed that this confusion resulted in a decline in ‘datchi-’ and facilitated the emergence of ‘dakchi-.’ ‘Dakchi-’ appears to have the meaning of ‘datchi-’ and ‘dathi-’ in each dialect. With the two joining, it is believed that ‘dakchi-’ was an opportunity to expand into “shut up.” It seems that ‘dakchi-’ was mainly limited to the most typical form in which the meaning of “shut your mouth” was revealed, and one can assume that the mechanism to avoid confusion with the already existing homonym ‘dakchi-(arrive).’
