Abstract
This study intends to construct and test an integrated model for explaining mobile delinquency. This model integrates both delinque nt characteristics and media opportunity factors. The former inclu des strain, social bonding variables, associates with mobile delinqu ent peers, attitude toward mobile delinquency, and low self-contro l which have been emphasized by major delinquent theories. The l atter includes mobile media characteristics(portability/mobility,indivi duality/secrecy,and simultaneity/connectivity) and other media oppo rtunity factors such as anonymity and mobile use time which give opportunities and make easier to commit mobile delinquency. This study intends to test the effects of both two group factors on mo bile delinquency and also test their interaction effects. Using data from 640 both male and female middle school students, results sh ow that association with mobile delinquent peers has the strongest effect on mobile delinquency. Results also reveal that low self-co ntrol and attachment to parents also have significant effects on m obile delinquency. It was also found that individuality/secrecy and anonymity have significant effects on mobile delinquency. In additi on, results show that the interaction effect between low self-contr ol and individuality/secrecy is significant.
