Abstract
Information technology along with internet usage is a critical component of governance and economic development. In this context, most governments and private organizations have adopted webpages through the internet. This paper reviews the relationship between the webpage adoption in their localities and the local economic development. The authors hypothesize that the webpage adoption can enhance local economic development in local governments. For this study, the data set used is composed of five counties of the Los Angeles basin area from 1988 to 1998. This empirical study shows that the webpage adoption has positively affected the local economic development and that the result is statistically significant. © 2007 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
