- Abstract
- This study examines low-level Korean EFL students’ motivation and demotivation in learning English. By using a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire, we compared low-level elementary students’ English learning motivation and demotivation with those of high school counterparts. It was found that the low-level students had a medium level of English learning motivation, and their demotivation level remained relatively low. Additionally, a statistically significant difference was identified in intrinsic motivation between elementary and high school students, and 6 out of 8 demotivation factors showed a statistically significant increase as they advanced from elementary to high schools. The findings suggest that English teachers modify the difficulty of their teaching contents considering low-level students’ demotivation in learning English.
