중등체육교사의 근무환경 실태 분석 및 향후 개선을 위한 담론

Abstract

본 연구는 학교체육의 질적 발전을 위해 중등체육교사들의 근무환경 실태를 파악하고 이에 대한 개선책 마련을 위한 담론을 전개하여 향후 발전적인 교원 정책 개발에 도움을 주고자 하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해2013년 전국 17개 시·도에 근무하고 있는 중등체육교사 중 할당표본추출법으로 선정한 243명(중학교=150,고등학교=93)을 대상으로 근무환경 실태, 업무량에 대한 인식 정도, 교육 외 업무량이 본인의 전문성에 미치는 영향에 대한 인식 정도를 분석하였다. 연구 결과 중등체육교사들은 주당 평균 18.50시간의 수업 시수를담당하고 있으며, 연간 교과 수업 및 수업 외의 교육활동에 투자하는 비중은 약 64%, 교육활동 외의 업무(행정업무, 기타잡무)에 투자하는 비중은 약 36% 정도인 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 다변량 분산분석을 통해 체육교사와 타 교과 교사의 업무량을 비교 분석한 결과, 중등체육교사들은 타 교과 교사들보다 주 당 수업 시수가 더 많은 것으로 나타났으며, 교과 수업 외 교육활동과 기타 잡무에도 더 많은 시간을 할애하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 토대로 중등체육교사들의 과중한 업무량은 궁극적으로 체육수업의 질적 수준을저하시킬 가능성을 내포하고 있기 때문에 이들의 업무량 경감 대책 마련이 필요하며, 그러한 대책과 체육교사들의 체육수업 질적 제고를 위한 노력이 긴밀하게 연계될 수 있도록 하는 다각적인 시도가 필요하다.

This study attempted to investigate physical education (PE) teachers’ workload in Korea. Specifically, this study explored PE teachers’ workload across educational and non-educational activities. Additionally, a comparison between PE teachers’ and other subject teachers’ workload was conducted. To achieve this goal, data from 243 PE teachers and 313 other subject teachers were collected. The frequency, descriptive statistics, and MANOVA were conducted using SPSS. Results revealed that PE teachers spent 64.0% of the total working hours for educational activities and 36.0% for non-educational activities. MANOVA analysis also demonstrated that PE teachers spent more hours in teaching and miscellaneous work compared to other subject teachers. As previous literatures have consistently found the negative effect of excessive workload on teacher’s personal outcomes (i.e., stress, job dissatisfaction, job burnout, and reduced job productivity), policy recommendations were proposed to reduce PE teachers’ workload and improve the quality of PE.
