- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to analyze the Korean Doublespeak Cognition Aspect in different social levels to examine what effect it has in communication. For this, this study has studied a couple of vocabulary words among the many doublespeak words that are being used in Korea currently to see how the people are accepting from their point of view as well as how they are interpreting them. For the comparative analysis of hierarchical society, the survey was conducted based on “gender, academic ability, age, and occupation” but in this study, it was centered on the academic ability and the age and the analysis based on the gender and occupation will be conducted in the future studies. The cognition aspect of the doublespeak words depending on the academic ability and the age showed in the following five aspects.
First, the meaning of double speak words for the high school graduates and the college students showed about the same results.
However, there was a significant difference in the recognition of the meaning of the doublespeak words among the people who graduated from middle school, graduated from high school and above, and current college students and above graduate school level.
Second, the lower the academic ability, people accepted the given meaning of the doulespeak vocabulary words but the higher the academic ability, people were aware of the meaning in an indirect and implicit meaning rather than the meaning of doublespeak.
Third, the difference in cognition of the doublespeak meaning between the academic abilities showed in different results even in the doublespeak cognition attitude. In other words, the difference between the attitude toward the doublespeak words comes from the difference in the meaning cognition of the doublespeak vocabulary words.
Fourth, there was a difference between the meaning the people who are in their teens and in their 60s recognized for the doublespeak words and the people between their 20s and 50s. Additionally, rather than the attitude of the people in their teens and their 60s, the people between the ages of their 20s and the 50s had a more variety of attitude toward the doublespeak vocabulary words.
Fifth, the lower or higher the academic ability and the age, they showed a clear positive or negative attitude toward the doublespeak vocabulary words.
