- Abstract
- Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find factors influencing needlestick and sharp injuries. Methods: This study was a descriptive research for current situation of needlestick and sharp injuries, recognition and implementation for standard precaution, and factors influencing needlestick and sharp injuries. The subjects were 450 nursing students of 2 universities in Seoul and Kyunggi-do. Data were collected form June to November, 2008 and the gathered data were analyzed by descriptive statics and regression analysis. Results: 33.8% of 450 nursing students experienced needlestick and sharp injuries during 2 weeks clinical training and three-year students were more than second-year students. The most tool causing needlestick injuries was scarificator for measurement of blood lancet as 12.4%. Main factors influencing needlestick and sharp injuries were students' year and experience of needle stick injuries. Conculusion: To control blood-borne infections efficiently, the results suggest development of education guidelines for nursing students and implementation of continual systematic education and training in clinic.
