Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the psychological skills training and counseling on performance, competition trait anxiety, goal orientation, and motivation in bowling athletes. The participants were twelve collegiate bowling athletes and completed a twelve-week training program. They were exposed to individual counseling sessions and given the individualized psychological training program based on their problems. Competition trait anxiety, achievement goal orientation, and motivation were assessed before and after the psychological skills training program. The results of the study are as follows. First, psychological skills training and counseling had a positive effect on psychometry and performance assessment. Second, there was an improvement on most of the bowling athletes’ psychological stability and performance of pre-to-post measurements. And lastly, mental skills like routine, concentration, imagery, were learned.
