- Abstract
- This study set out to establish the concept of self-management for instructors in sports situations and investigate its components. The subjects include shooting and archery instructors. A male and female instructor from each of the games participated in an in-depth interview. Total 60 including 19 shooting instructors(31.7%) and 41 archery instructors(68.3%) filled out an open-ended questionnaire. The self-management of sports instructors requires the overall combination of individual abilities to develop and regulate oneself according to self-awareness, relation abilities to form smooth relations with people around him or her, and professional abilities to manage thorough preparation, planning, and practice in instruction right. Specifically, the components of individual abilities focused on the improvement of individual abilities such as self-awareness, self-development, and self-regulation. Those of relation abilities focused on the enhancement of an instructor's relation abilities with his or her job and life, players, and people around him or her. Those of professional abilities focused on well-prepared instruction incorporated in the field of sports, well-planned instruction related to games, and increase of instruction for practice abilities to exert practical instructional skills. The findings of the study will provide a basis for instructors to check and improve their capabilities and offer basics in instructor-related fields including psychological reinforcement education and guidebooks for instructors.
