- Abstract
- 최근 분석 형이상학에서 많은 철학적 주목을 받고 있는 개념이 “근거 부여(grounding)”이다. 이 새로운 개념을 옹호하는 많은 철학자들은 “형이상학적 설명” 개념을 통해 이 개념에 내용을 부여하고자 노력해왔다. 이 논문에서는 이런 노력에 대한 N. 톰슨의 비판을 검토한다. 필자는 톰슨의 비판이 설명적 관계가 갖는 화용론적 요소의 위상에 대한 잘못된 이해에 기반하고 있다고 주장할 것이다. 설명 이론의 구조에 대한 필자의 이론에 따르면, 형이상학적 설명 관계의 화용론적 성격은 형이상학적 설명 관계의 성립의 필요조건으로서의 근거 부여 관계의 객관성과 완벽하게 양립 가능하다.
