- Abstract
- This paper is to identify dynamic behavior and mechanisms of charging standards competition in the evolution of the Electric Vehicle (EV) market. Although previous theories on the standard competition assert on the ‘tipping effect’, dynamic behavior of EV market does not show the typical pattern of tipping effect. Rather diverse standards of electric charging vehicles do grow together. We named the dynamic behavior of recent electric vehicle market as ‘distributed tipping effect’. To identify structural mechanism of ‘distributed tipping effect’, we re-examined the casual map of EV market focusing on the relation between EV sales and charging stations. We found that there are positive feedback loops that help all kinds of charging standards to grow, and a negative feedback loop that weakens the tipping effect of dominant standard of electric charging. These feedback loops of emerging EV market produce the ‘distributed tipping effect’.
