군조직과 군복무에 대한 한국인의 인식

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 한국 사회에서 군조직과 복무에 대한 인식이 어떠한지를 규명하고 그러한 인식을 좀 더 긍정적으로 개선할 수 있는 방안을 모색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 먼저 한국의 문화변동이 군 관련 인식에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지를 알아보았다. 그 결과 공동체적인 문화를 가진 우리 사회에 서구문화의 개인주의 유입으로 군복무 관련한 인식도 개인의 권리와 혜택을 중시하는 방향으로 변화하였음을 밝혔다. 그 다음, 군조직이나 군복무에 대한 인식을 다룬 국내 학술연구들을 살펴보았다. 국내연구들의 경우, 무엇보다도 군을 주제로 한 연구가 매우 부족했다. 또한 한국인들은 군복무에 대해서 일정부분 부정적이었으며 이러한 태도는 주로 가까운 사람들의 영향을 많이 받았다. 또한 군에 대한 이미지와 관련해서 대중매체가 다루는 내용을 살펴보았다. 그 결과 우리의 매체는 북한에 대한 보도를 많이 했고, 우리의 군이 가지고 있는 문제점을 주로 지적하는 경향이 있었다. 셋째, 군과 군복부에 대한 외국의 사례를 조사하여 알아보았다. 그 결과 외국의 논문은 모병제에 기초해서 군 입대 지원자들에게 군에 대한 긍정적 이미지를 주는 요인들을 탐구했다. 또한 군에 대한 이미지와 관련해서 해외의 대중매체가 다루는 내용을 살펴본 결과, 미국의 매체들은 군을 매우 긍정적이고 군인을 존경의 대상으로 묘사하는 경우가 많았다. 이러한 결과에 기초해서 군에 대한 이미지를 개선하기 위한 방안을 제안하였다. 즉, 학술적인 연구의 증대, 군 관련 인식의 제고를 위한 군 자체적 노력, 대중매체와 정부의 노력이 필요함을 제안하였다.

The present research aims at examining how korean people see the armed forces and military services and exploring the ways to improve the status quo. For this purpose, how cultural changes have influence on the armed force related perception in Korean society is investigated. It was found that Korean society embedded in communal culture becomes to put more weight on personal rights and benefits mainly because of inflow of Western individualism. Academic research of this issue was then reviewed, which revealed that there are a paucity of domestic studies which deal with the armed forces seen in the eyes of Koreans. Further, it was examined how the military are seen in the Korean mass media. They are attuned to the issues at North Korea. They are also inclined to pick up problems and corruptions related to the military than shed light on their positive sides. On the other hand, overseas studies focus on identifying factors to contribute to making positive impressions on the military applicants of the services. Further US mass media tend to focus on the positive aspects of the military, which is sharply contrasted with the position of US mass media. Finally, the ways to improve the recognition of Korean society for the armed forces and military services. Specifically increased academic studies, efforts on the side of the military, mass media, and government are suggested for reach this goal.
