- Abstract
- This paper presents a rigorous framework for the numerical modeling of dehumidification modules utilizing a liquid desiccant (LiCl) and flat-sheet hydrophobic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane. In the present work, we have extensively examined the influence of module design parameters, i.e., channel heights of both humid air and solution streams in the range of 1−5 mm and flow configurations such as parallel-, counter- and cross-flow, on the module performance in terms of heat and moisture transfers (i.e., sensible and latent effectivenesses). It is found that the sensible effectiveness increases by 15% and 22%, respectively, whilst the latent effectiveness increases by 1.9% and 3.1%, respectively, by varying the flow configuration from parallel- to cross- and counter-flow at both channel heights of 2 mm. With a change in both channel heights ranging from 1 to 5 mm, the sensible and latent effectivenesses are found to be in the range of 0.47−0.96 and 0.50−0.76, respectively, regardless of the flow configuration.
