Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence, perceived stress, and dance expression in dancers, providing insights for well-being and dance performance. A total of 156 dancers from universities and dance companies Emotional intelligence was measured using the Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale(WLEIS). Perceived stress was assessed using the Perceived Stress Scale(PSS). Dance expression was evaluated with a dance expression ability test. The study showed that dancers had above-average emotional intelligence and dance expression, while perceived stress was below average. No significant differ- ences were found based on demographic characteristics. Correlation analysis re- vealed a negative relationship between emotional intelligence and perceived stress, and a positive correlation between emotional intelligence and dance expression. Perceived stress negatively correlated with dance expression. Multiple regression analysis showed that emotional intelligence accounted for 53.8% of the variance in perceived stress with the ability to use and regulate emotions having a negative impact. Emotional intelligence explained 46% of the variance in dance expression with self-emotion appraisal and the use of emotions positively influencing dance expression. When considering both emotional intelligence and perceived stress, these explained 46.2% of the variance in dance expression. In conclusion, findings of this study suggest that emotional intelligence plays a key role in reducing stress and enhancing dance expression. Enhancing emotional in- telligence through targeted educational programs is recommended to improve both the well-being and performance of dancers.
