Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to review the characteristics and attributes of Korean language education in North Korea after the 2012 school system reform. This thesis mainly consists of three parts in regards to content. First, it is to review the characteristics of the revised curriculum and examine the status of Korean language subject in the midst. Next, it is to review the aspect of practical changes in Korean language subject. It will review the type of competent people North Korea seeks to cultivate through education, for which the transformed attributes of Korean language subject will be inferred. Third, it inferred the contents of Korean language education currently being provided in North Korea such as reading, speaking and writing of Korean language education. In North Korea, Korean language subject is being treated importantly as a core tool subject. While the objective of Korean language education in the previous era focused on ‘cultivation of revolutionary people’, the objective of education after the recent reform has changed to increasing learners’ creativity and perception capability. Most of all, innovation of teaching & education methods is being considered as the main assignment of this reform in North Korea. What is noteworthy is the utilization of new teaching methods based on learner centered teaching method and teaching method utilizing video clip. In addition, Korean language education after the reform further emphasizes the practical aspects such as the increase of language function and actual application of the area of Korean language study.
