Abstract
This paper describes the thermal-mechanical characteristics of end-box joint in underground transmission systems. Recently, the fault in underground power cables has been increasing in winter season because the power demand was increased by dropped outside temperature. The conductor extension and shrinkage is generally appeared by the thermal-mechanical characteristics due to conductor force and temperature difference. In this case, the insulation of outdoor end-box joint might be degraded by reduced interface pressure surrounding stress-cone. Therefore, in this paper, the thermal characteristics are variously reviewed by simulation analysis for basic study of fault investigation occurred in winter season.
