Abstract
This study focuses on investigating the effects of adherend materials on the torsional strength of composite tubular adhesive joints. The initial failure index was introduced to consider the effect of residual thermal stresses. Two different composite adherends were considered in this analysis: carbon/epoxy and glass/epoxy. The effects of stacking angle and adhesive thickness on joint strength were also investigated. The results show that the joint with the carbon/epoxy adherend is more affected by the residual thermal stresses. The failure mode and joint strength depend on the stacking angle and adhesive thickness as well as the adherend materials. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
