Rasch 모형을 이용한 Marlowe-Crowne의 사회적 정향성 척도 타당화

Abstract

사회적 정향성(正向性)이란 “문화적으로 인정되고 지지 받는 행동을 추구함으로써 인정받고 싶어 하는 욕구”를 의미하며, 실제로 일어날 가능성은 적으나 문화적으로 적절하고 옳다고 생각되는 쪽으로 편향되어 반응함으로써 자신을 바람직한 방향으로 표현하는 경향을 말한다. 이러한 응답자의 경향은 사회과학에서 폭넓게 활용되고 있는 자기보고식 검사에 대한 응답자의 반응을 왜곡시킴으로 인해서 검사결과에 대한 신뢰성 및 타당성에 많은 문제점을 노출시켰다. 따라서 이러한 응답자들의 왜곡된 반응을 통제해주기 위한 방법의 일환으로 Crowne & Marlowe(1960)가 대학생 집단을 대상으로 33개 문항으로 이루어진 Marlowe-Crowne의 사회적 정향성 척도(Social Desirability Scale: SDS)를 개발 하였다. Marlowe와 Crowne이 개발한 척도는 MMPI나 Edwards(1957)의 척도와 비교할 때 정신병리학적 측면을 최소화한 척도란 점에서 지난 40년 동안 성격연구에서 광범위하게 사용되어 왔지만 국내에서는 이를 활용한 연구가 거의 없었다. 따라서 본 연구는 Crowne & Marlowe(1960)가 개발한 33개 문항의 사회적 정향성 척도를 우리말로 번안하고 그 타당성을 검증하기 위한 목적으로 수행되었다. 분석 결과, 척도평균점수가 다른 선행연구와 비슷한 결과를 보였으며 신뢰도 또한 비교적 높게 나타났다. 성별, 학력별 통계 검증 결과는 남자가 여자보다, 대학생보다 대학원생이 사회적 정향성이 강한 것으로 나타났다. 피험자X문항 분포도 와 문항적합도 분석 결과 전반적으로 검사 문항의 난이도와 적합도가 타당했으며, 전체문항이 비교적 하나의 단일요인을 측정하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 후속 연구로는 첫째, 검사 대상의 확대를 위한 아동용, 청소년용 척도 개발, 성별, 학력 변인이외의 사회적 정향성에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 다양한 배경변인 효과 및 그에 따른 차별기능문항과의 관계 분석, 한국어판 간편형 사회적 정향성 척도 개발 연구 등을 제안 하였다.

The present study investigated the psychometric properties of the Marlowe-Crowne social desirability scale. Social desirability refers to the tendency for individuals to present themselves in ways of socially favored fashion (Crowne & Marlowe, 1960, p.353). Specifically, the purpose of this study were to test the validity of items by examining dimensionalities of the questionnaire, and to examine the consistency of the participants' responses using the Rasch model. For this purpose, all the original 33 items were translated into Korean and administered to the 286 college students. The followings are the summary of the major findings; First, the mean and standard deviation of the Korean version of the Marlowe-Crowne scale are 14.47 and 4.88 respectively, which are similar to the findings reported by Marlowe-Crowne(1960) in their original study(M=13.72, SD=5.78). Second, the reliability coefficient was α=.73, that implies an acceptable level of reliability. Third, the results of residual based factor analysis indicated that the instrument has a unidimensional structure, which is consistent with the basic assumption of the Rasch model. All the findings in the present study suggest that the Korean version of the Marlowe-Crowne scale is a psychometrically sound research tool, and thus, can be used in the future studies.
